Puri Sightseeing Plan

One of the popular tourist destinations in India, Puri is land of recreation and pilgrimage. Thousands of travelers from all across India and abroad come to this beautiful seaside destination to enjoy a great holiday. In addition, Puri is home to the famed Jagannath temple that attracts thousands of pilgrims. To have a wonderful trip in Puri, you need to chalk out a good sightseeing plan so that you can enjoy all the points of interests.

First things first, your sightseeing plan should start with choosing the right transport option to come to Puri. Various transport options and routes are available for coming to Puri easily and conveniently. The nearest airport is located in the city of Bhubaneswar. It takes around 2 hours to drive from Bhubaneswar to Puri. The railway network also connects Puri with other parts of the country. Road transport is also well developed and bus services are available from the city to various places like Kolkata, Cuttack, and Balasore.

Typically, your stay in Puri should be between three and five days. After you arrive in the town, you can spend the first day in your hotel or by enjoying by the beach side. It is ideal for a bath or a pleasant stroll. The beach is located by the lovely Bay of Bengal and is ideal place to spend some days far away from the hustle and bustle of city life.

On the second day, you can visit the holy Jagannath temple. Built during the early 10th century by the Ganga dynasty, it is a pilgrimage center and part of the ‘Char Dham’ pilgrimage sites. The annual chariot festival is a famous festival that takes place in the Jagannath temple.

It ranks among the World Heritage Sites and is located on the banks of the Chandrabhaga River. It was constructed in the 13th century and is dedicated to the Sun God. Some other points of interest are Dhauli peace pagoda, Udayagiri caves, Bhubaneswar city, Nandankanan and so on.

Last but not the least; your sightseeing plan should also include a trip to the lovely Chilka Lake. It is the largest brackish Water Lake in Asia. In winter Chilka flutters with thousands of migratory birds as far as from Siberia. Also visit Nalabana Bird Sanctuary, Honeymoon Island and a few fishing villages at Chilka Lake.
